24-hour on Qinghai-Tibet Railway
The abbreviation of the Qinghai-Tibet line refers to the railway from Qinghai Province to the Tibet Autonomous Region and belongs to one of the national trunk railways in China.
Qinghai-Tibet railway ranks Grade I of the State-owned Railway. Most of the road sections are non-electrified single-line railways. Some of the road sections have been expanded to two-line railways, and some sections have been converted to electrification, which is known as the “sky road”.
Lhasa-Lanzhou Train Ticket
The Qinghai-Tibet line begins in Xining City, Qinghai Province, passing through Golmud City, Kunlun Mountain Pass, and the Tuotuo River. It crosses the Tanggula Mountain Pass and enters the Tibet Autonomous Region, passes Amdo County, Nagqu, Dangxiong, Yambajan, and Lhasa. With a total length of 1956 kilometers, it is an important Tibet route. It is the plateau railway with the highest altitude in the world and the longest distance on the frozen soil. It is one of the four major projects in the new century in China. It was selected as a “Global Project for 100 Years” in September 2013. It is a monument in the history of world railway construction.
Tsonag Lake is one of the most famous scenic spots along the Amdo County and Qinghai-Tibet Railway, and it is the first beautiful landscape seen by tourists entering Amdo County. On the east side of the lake, the Qinghai-Tibet railway passes by the tranquil and beautiful God Lake closely, and the nearest distance is only tens of meters. There is also a viewing platform set up here. It is the source of plateau freshwater lakes, River Liantonghe and Salween River.
The area is about 400 square kilometers and is the highest freshwater lake in the world. Under the backdrop of blue sky and white clouds and a vast expanse of grassland, the clear turquoise Tsonag Lake in the summer is exceptionally beautiful. Mountains and lakes are reflected by each other. The rivers and streams in the southern part of the Tanggula Mountains all flow into Tsonag Lake and then flow into the Salween River.
The last station before darkness, Nagqu Station where cordyceps grows.
Before flying back to Shanghai, had a bowl of authentic Lanzhou Hand-Pulled Noodles.

Notes for Off-season in Tibet
1) The peak season in Tibet is from May to October and the rest is the off-season.
The climate is good in the peak season and there is plenty of oxygen. As soon as the off-season arrives, the tent on the Everest base camp is immediately evacuated.
If you have a trip to Everest Base Camp in Tingri County, you must apply for Alien's Travel Permit besides of Tibet Entry Permit. Otherwise, you cannot enter the Everest Peak Scenic Area.
3) At least 2 weeks before drink Rhodiola Oral Liquid, it is not guaranteed that you will not feel altitude sickness. It can only be said that this is a preventive measure in advance. It can allow you to better adapt to the environment of high altitude hypoxia, and you must adhere to take it after entering Tibet.
4) Altitude sickness
Please don’t neglect Altitude Reaction. Seriously you will lose your life. Action must be “slow” in Tibetan areas. You must eat slowly and walk slowly. You can’t carry weight, and you must take slow steps. Don’t take heavy things, and if you’re tired, please have a rest, and be sure to drink plenty of water and adding plenty of water can ease altitude sickness.
It's easy to get AMS when you climb the hill of Drepung Monastery.
5) Drinking water
The plateau has a boiling point of only 80°C. This means that the water cannot be heated to 100°C, so it is recommended to buy large bottled mineral water in the supermarket.
Essential supplies for off-season into Tibet
1) large-capacity warm-keeping pot
During the five-day charter trip, the large-capacity warm keeping pot saved us. Because of off-season and altitude reaction, we must continue to drink hot water, but along the road in addition to some border checkpoints, there is no place to be able to recharge hot water, and some border defense stations also stop water and electric power, so during the chartered journey you must bring a large capacity warm keeping pot.
b) Cold medicine: To prevent colds, it is very dangerous to catch a cold at the plateau.
3) Jackets Complete Set
In the off-season, Tibet is very cold and windy. I only bought a jacket and later I regretted it. My legs were so cold. In Tibetan areas, the warmth of legs and feet is very important. Cherish life, buy a full set of warm jackets.
4) gloves, hats, gauze masks
Going to Namtso in the off-season will make you feel so cold and be doubtful about life. A pair of flexible and warm gloves are badly needed. Tibetan areas are very windy. Hats and gauze masks can protect the head well.
When you are suffering from nosebleeds, wipes can stop the blood quickly, pressing the bridge of the nose. You can prepare a large package in the car or room, and a few small packages to carry with yourself.
In addition to Lhasa and Xigaze which belong to the prosperous areas of Tibetan areas, when you go to other places, it is recommended that you should take some cash, and in Tibet people do not accept coins.
7) Sunglasses, sunscreen
Way to Tibet: By flight or train through Qinghai-Tibet Railway
1, the price: the price of the aircraft may be cheaper than the price of the railway, taking Shanghai as an example, the price from Shanghai to Lhasa, including tax is 870 yuan, and the price of hard berth of the railway is more than 800 yuan (a room for 6 people and divided into the upper, middle and lower berth, no zipper, no enclosed Space), soft berth is more than 1200 yuan(a room for 4 people, divided into upper and lower berth, independent space), and hard seat is not to be considered.
2. Time: The time of the plane is definitely much less than the time of the railway. Taking Shanghai as an example, the plane takes about 12 hours to fly to Xi'an to transfer, while the railway is more than 56 hours.
3. Scenery: The railway needs to transfer to aerobic trains in Xining, and you can see Qinghai Lake, Siling Co, and Nyenchen Tonglha Mountains. The scenery along the way is picturesque and the yak and grasslands are in sight. When it is in winter, it is quite a shock to see the snow-capped mountains from a God's point of view, and when it is near Lhasa, the aircraft will fly very low and low, and it is the lowest route to fly in the country and the lake can even be seen clearly. The lake water on the ground feels a little away from the plane, which is incommensurable on other routes.
Lanzhou Train Station
Many people say that for the first time to Tibet, we need to sit on the Qinghai-Tibet Railway in order to adapt to the rising altitude, in fact, there is not much difference. Moreover, the Qinghai-Tibet Railway takes a long time, ranging from 24 hours to more than 60 hours, and when you really arrive at Lhasa, you may not have the energy to adapt to high altitude, and altitude sickness can be more serious, even if it is soft berth.
Therefore, don’t tangle with how to get into Tibet. In fact, in my opinion, if you can fly, then fly, except that you wish to see by yourself the Qinghai-Tibet Railway. But those landscapes can also be seen in Tibet.
I chose to fly from Shanghai to Tibet, and by train from Lhasa to Lanzhou, and then from Lanzhou to Shanghai.
If you choose the railway, it is best to start from the aerobic train that starts from Xining. There is really no need to start from the beginning to the end. The scenery along the railway also starts from Xining and ends at Xining.
